In a SURPRISE move and major assault on black money, fake currency & corruption, taking the nation by surprise PM Narendra Modi announces demonetisation of Rs 500 & Rs 1000 notes with effect from midnight, making these notes invalid in a major assault on black money, fake currency & corruption.
This is a movement started by PM Narendra Modi in order to put an end to corruption, fake currency, terrorism as they are festering wounds holding back the Indian Economy.
Highlights of PM Narendra Modi's address to the Nation:
- Rs 500 & Rs 1000 currency notes will not be legal tender from midnight today (Nov 8,2016).
- The citizens of India have a time period of 50 days (*from 10 Nov to 30 Dec) to deposit notes of Rs 500 & Rs 1000 in any Bank or Post Office.
- On Nov 9 & Nov 10, ATM's will not work.
- Respite for people in the initial 72 hours, Govt. hospitals will accept old Rs 500 & Rs 1000 notes till 11 Nov midnight.
- Rs 500 & Rs 1000 currency notes will just be paper with no value.
- Currency notes of Rs 20, Rs 50, Rs 100 & coins are valid, there is no stoppage on their circulation.
- CNG gas stations, Petrol pumps & retail outlets can accept Rs 500 & Rs 1000 notes till Nov 11, midnight (records has to be maintained).
- There will be no change in any other form of currency exchange be it cheque, DD, payment via credit & debit card.
According to the PM there is Blackmoney to the tune of Rs 1.25 lakh crore unearthed during last two-and-a-half-years.
